We are looking for an
enthusiastic and committed Band 6 Junior sister to join our elective and
emergency Vascular Surgery ward at Sunderland Royal Hospital. You will be
working in a busy adult vascular ward, which provides both elective and
non-elective care to our patients. The vascular service at STSFT is currently
based on C36 and supports patient from across the region from South Tyneside to
Durham. The successful candidate will be an experienced nurse with a background
specialised in vascular or another surgical speciality. The successful
candidate will support the Department Manager and Multidisciplinary team to
provide patient centred evidence-based care; maintain high care delivery
standards and efficient, safe management of patients within our busy Vascular
ward. Educational support for the role exists both in house and externally. We

Main duties of the job
The role includes working closely with the ward manager, nursing team and Vascular Consultants, as well as, colleagues in our other wards and departments.
To support the Ward Manager, and a full complement of Registered Nurses, Health Care Assistants and ward administration support, will provide strong leadership and foster excellent communication, teamwork and collaboration with all colleagues, to consistently deliver excellent patient care to all service users. The duties of the Junior sister include:
- Providing high quality, effective, individualised care to all patients by assessing care needs and developing, implementing and evaluating them without supervision
- Continuous monitoring of patient experience and safety.
- Being a primary point of contact for service users, responding to patients, relatives and carers concerns and complaints as they arise, and taking remedial action as required
- To supervise, support and educate junior members of the team, acting as a role model.
- Support ward/department manager to ensure organisational goals/objectives are met within ward/department.
