Job summary
We are looking for a committed Band 6 Junior Sister / Charge Nurse to join our elective / non-elective Orthopaedic ward at Sunderland Royal Hospital.
You will be working in a busy adult orthopaedic ward, which provides both elective and non-elective care to our orthopaedic patients The orthopaedic service at STSFT currently has two wards at SRH D42 (non-elective orthopaedic admission unit) and D48 (a mixed orthopaedic trauma and elective unit), as well as one ward at STDH. There is also a dedicated Fracture Clinic at SRH.
You will be an experienced nurse with a background specialised in Orthopaedics or another surgical speciality, you will support the Department Manager and Multidisciplinary team to provide patient-centred evidence-based care; maintain high care delivery standards and efficient, safe management of patients within our busy Orthopaedic ward.

Main duties of the job
The role includes working closely with the Orthopaedic and Orthogeriatric Consultants, colleagues in our other Orthopaedic wards and departments. To support the Ward Manager, and a full complement of Registered Nurses, Healthcare Assistants and ward administration support, will provide strong leadership and foster excellent communication, teamwork and collaboration with all colleagues, to consistently deliver excellent patient care to all service users. The duties include:
- Providing high-quality, effective, individualised care to all patients by assessing care needs and developing, implementing and evaluating them without supervision.
- Continuous monitoring of patient experience and harm-free care.
- Being a primary point of contact for service users, responding to patients, relatives and carers concerns and complaints as they arise, and taking remedial action as required.
- To supervise, support and educate junior members of the Team, acting as a role model.
- Support ward/department manager to ensure organisational goals/objectives are met within ward/department.
When taking charge of the ward/department or in the absence of the ward/department manager, is directly responsible for ensuring that clinical, professional and cleanliness standards are maintained in the entire ward/department.
