Applications are invited for the post of Trust Doctor in Vascular
Surgery (SHO equivalent). The successful applicant will participate in an
on-call rota working across the Vascular, General Surgery and Urology
Directorates, whilst providing elective support to the vascular team.
This post represents an excellent opportunity for both aspiring
surgical trainees and those withing to gain further exposure to a surgical
specialty experience in a large acute hospital gaining wide experience in
emergency and elective practice.
The successful applicant will be guided in their development by an
Educational and Clinical Supervisor, and will have access to a range of
educational opportunities both formal and ad hoc. The post holder will participate
in the shared on-call commitments and be expected to attend regular scheduled
and emergency theatre cases. They have the opportunity to attend departmental
surgery teaching sessions, in addition to participation at Morbidity and
Mortality meetings and presentation of audit to peers.
As are one of only three tertiary centres for vascular services in
the North East, our scope of practice covers the breadth of vascular surgery
offering our patient population treatments for aortic aneurysms (both open
and endovascular), carotid disease, peripheral vascular disease, renal
access and endovenous treatments for varicose veins.
Main duties of the job
This is a 12 months fixed term post from August 2026.
To provide daily high
quality clinical care within, inpatient ward areas, outpatient settings and
theatre facilities.
For the
day-to-day role the post holder is expected to be present on the daily ward
rounds for managing patient care and assisting the
ST3+,SpN and FY1 in performing daily patient tasks, including
routine ward jobs, patient clerking, ordering appropriate
investigations,obtaining results,liaising with
other specialties and formulating management plans in a supervised
capacity.
The Post holder
is expected (and will be rotad) to attend regular theatre sessions, along with
the opportunity to join emergency cases with the on-call team. There will be
opportunities to learn and develop surgical skills along with assisting and
performing surgical procedures with appropriate supervision throughout this
post. The on-call commitment, as outlined,will further help develop
knowledge and skill in basic general surgical and urological conditions.
Attendance at
out-patient clinics is encouraged for focused history taking and examination,
together with discussion of investigations and
definitive routine patient management.
As a

and develop a CV to support a surgical career with audit, research and QI

higher surgical training posts.
