Job summary

An opportunity has arisen within the Trust to join the Oral and Maxillo Facial (OMFS) Department from September 2024 on a fixed term contract as a Trust Doctor.

The Department carries out the full range of oral and facial surgery, including oral and facial malignancy and microvascular surgery, facial deformity, facial hard and soft tissue trauma, surgical dermatology and dentoalveolar surgery. There will be a requirement to cross cover out of hours with colleagues in Ear Nose and Throat (ENT).

Applicants should possess BDS or equivalent dental qualification as recognized by the GDC, hold full GDC registration.

Main duties of the job

The post is centred on Sunderland Royal Hospital. The department overs both elective and 'on call' commitments to hospitals south of the Tyne, including Shotley Bridge, South Tyneside and University Hospital of North Durham.

It may be very occasionally necessary to visit hospitals in the surrounding area for surgical lists and to attend emergencies.

Medical Examination of Patients

Attending to emergency patients presenting to A&E in Sunderland

Dento-alveolar and minor oral surgery

On call cover including cross cover with ENT during out of hours on a joint rota
