Applications are invited for the post of Urology Trust
Doctor within Surgical Division at Sunderland for 12 months. The successful
applicants will also participate in a joint on-call rota (SHO level) working
across 3 directorates, to provide great learning opportunities whilst also providing
elective support to your chosen team.
The posts represent an opportunity for a CT-equivalent
surgical trainee to gain experience in a large acute hospital gaining
experience in emergency and elective practice. The successful applicant will be
guided in their development by an Educational and Clinical Supervisor and will
have access to a range of educational opportunities equivalent to Foundation
Programme teaching at year 2 level. The post holder will also have the
opportunity to attend departmental surgery teaching sessions, in addition to
participation at Morbidity and Mortality meetings and presentation of audits.

Main duties of the job
This Vacancy is only available to current employees of STSFT and doctors employed by LET
Urology is one of three tertiary centres for the
specialty in the North East and provides a comprehensive range of clinical subspecialties. The service includes a 27bed ward and three bespoke units dedicated to
diagnostics and outpatient treatments. There are also three dedicated Urology
theatres, one of which forms part of the Robotic Suite.
The department is dynamic and forwardthinking, having recently introduced several new
services, including a rapid access unit, onestop
clinics and a range of innovative robotic surgical procedures.
We are seeking dynamic and enthusiastic candidates
who can make a meaningful contribution to the continued development of the
unit. You will be encouraged and supported to participate in clinical audit,
quality improvement and the production of papers for publication.
The post includes participation in the junior
doctor oncall rota, offering valuable experience and insight
into the full breadth of the urology service.

gaining wide experience in Urology emergency and elective practice. Through this post the successful applicant

This post is primarily based at Sunderland
Royal Hospital. Role responsibilities are to provide high quality clinical care
on a daily basis within, inpatient wards areas, outpatient settings and theatre
facilities. To ensure timely, effective and efficient quality patient care
highlighting any concerns to senior staff as necessary. To assist/undertake
supervised surgical procedures where instructed/trained to do so, in elective
and emergency situations. To assist Consultant staff in theatre, working within
boundaries of own limitations and GMC guidance. To contribute to research and
development within the Directorate.
The post holder will be part of the team
delivering clinical care to the Urology Wards at Sunderland Royal Hospital, for
both planned and emergency admissions. The department provides emergency
Urology management for the Accident and Emergency and GP services in South
Tyneside and Sunderland. The post holder will provide diagnostic advice and
emergency management in a supported environment. The post holder will also
cover the Urology first on call rota when on night shift.
The rota is designed to allow maximal
attendance at educational sessions, either in theatre or outpatient clinics.
The department is also strongly supported by Allied Health Professionals,
allowing an enhanced learning experience.
Active
participation is expected in the departmental meetings, rota management and
departmental junior doctor teaching programmes.
Clinical audit projects are actively encouraged in the department,
whilst participation in clinical governance and morbidity & mortality
meetings is mandatory.
