An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Trust doctor
post lasting up to 6 months at first tier on call in the ENT Department in
Sunderland Royal Hospital. The successful applicant will be involved in the
inpatient care of adult and paediatric ENT patients and the management of
emergency referrals in our well supported SDEC (Same Day Emergency Care)
environment. They will undertake first on call duties supported by a middle
grade and consultant, with cross cover with OMFS at night.
This
role would be perfect for those wishing to experience ENT to help support their
career development. ENT knowledge is vital for those looking to careers in
paediatrics, General Practice and of course ENT however it is also excellent
experience for many closely related specialities.
The
rota is designed to enable attendance at educational sessions, either in
theatre or outpatient clinics. The department is also strongly supported by
Allied Health Professionals, allowing an enhanced learning experience.

- Full shift working pattern (40hrs) with clinical exposure divided between ward management, provision of emergency care and attendance at routine ENT clinic/theatre sessions.
- Participation in the Otolaryngology first-on-call tier plus night shift cover for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) first tier on-call team.
- Responsible to the Clinical Director, Miss Helen Cocks.
The post
- The post holder will be part of the team delivering clinical care to the adult and paediatric ENT wards at Sunderland Royal Hospital, for both planned and emergency admissions.
- The department provides emergency ENT management for the Emergency Department and GP services in South Tyneside and Sunderland. The post holder will provide diagnostic advice and emergency management in a well-supported environment, with skilled nurse practitioners and supernumerary middle grade during the day and registrar and consultant support out of hours. The post holder will also cover the OMFS first on-call rota when on night shift also well supported by middle grade and consultant.
