Job summary
We are looking for a full time environmental assistant / housekeeper to work 37.5 hours per week working over 5 days (Monday Friday) covering from 0800 until 1600 each day.
This is an exciting new post to join our excellent team on our busy ward at Sunderland Royal Hospital. Ward D48 is a 40 bedded ward which specialises in caring for patients who are admitted for elective orthopaedic surgery and also non elective surgery. Our patients are admitted for complex orthopaedic surgery and therefore the ward requires extremely high standards of cleanliness.
The successful candidate must be self-motivated, enthusiastic and have experience of working in a hospital / care environment. You will help to maintain a high standard of cleanliness in the department and maintain adequate stock levels. You will be responsible for completing all daily checklists to ensure all equipment including emergency equipment are cleaned, in working order, fully stocked and ready to use. You will be joining a committed forward thinking team where you can make a significant contribution to safe effective care to the patients in ward D48. In this role, you will work closely with the nursing team to ensure the ward is providing excellent standards of patient care and maintaining patient safety which will ensure a positive patient experience. The right candidate will have effective communication skills and demonstrate effective organisation skills.
Main duties of the job
We require an enthusiastic, motivated person with a friendly nature to join our team. The role is predominantly to help us maintain a high level of cleanliness, equipment maintenance and stock control in our ward, while improving the overall patient experience. You will be joining a committed and forward thinking team and support will be given to you in this new role. Experience of working within a similar environment would be desirable the post holder will provide non-clinical support to the team carrying out tasks assigned to the individual under the supervision of Registered Nurses.
The post holder will have autonomy in the ordering of stores, reporting of faults and the initiation of works as required ensuring safe and smooth running of the Ward. The post holder will attend necessary meetings, feeding back relevant information, action within own scope and share responsibilities with Senior staff to enable them to delegate to the appropriate person.
To maintain a high standard of cleanliness within the ward and to keep it clutter free at all times
To communicate information to staff, patients, relatives and carers and ensure visitors are following the ward visiting rules and infection control measures.
To ensure all equipment is cleaned and ready for use.
To ensure adequate stock levels.
To comply with the Trusts vision, values and behavioural compact.
To maintain health and safety of service users
To monitor and maintain equipment and report any faults.
