Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced dental nurse to train to be an Orthodontic Therapist. A therapist is an integral part of the multidisciplinary team, requiring specialised clinical skills to contribute to the delivery of the service.

We are a developing a young service, so this is an exciting time to join the team.

We are looking for a caring, enthusiastic individual to join our friendly team in a supportive environment.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will provide orthodontic treatment on prescription from the consultant orthodontist and under supervision.

Duties will include the provision of high quality dental care under the prescription of a Orthodontic Consultant for a group of patients, many of whom have complex needs.

You must be fully registered with the UK General Dental Council and have excellent communication skills and be sensitive to the needs of the patient.

  • National Certificate in Dental Nursing
  • Certificate in Conscious Dental Sedation or Orthodontics

Desirable

  • Experience with treating patients (e.g. on a nurse-led clinic

  • Significant experience of working as a specialist orthodontic nurse
  • Experience with the delivery of oral hygiene and dental care to a large group of patients

Desirable

  • Experience in taking orthodontic records or fitting retainers.
  • Experience in the care of medically compromised patients

Knowledge & Skills

  • Understands GDC code of practice and Orthodontic therapist proficiencies and scope of practice. Knowledge of a wide range of Orthodontic procedures. Aware of how risk management impacts on role as an orthodontic therapist. Understands that safeguarding is everyones business. Ability to prioritise and organise own workload.
  • Ability to work autonomously, acting decisively on behalf of self and others with the use of good problem solving skills.
