An opportunity
has arisen for a Clinical Scientist to join our enthusiastic and future-focussed
team.
Clinically, the
focus of this role will be supporting the vestibular diagnostic and
rehabilitation service and the tinnitus and sound sensitivity service. The post
holder will work within a multidisciplinary team to provide high-quality
patient care.
You must be
able to demonstrate proficient team working, as well as a high standard of
clinical and communication skills. You will need to develop good working
relationships and liaise effectively with a wide range of clinicians, patients
and families.
As well as
applications from HCPC registered Clinical Scientists, we also welcome
applications from trainee Clinical Scientists in their final year of the STP
(Scientist Training Programme) in Audiology, who are keen to develop their
expertise in these clinical specialisms. The service is an accredited STP
training department and support would be provided to complete any outstanding
clinical aspects and proceed to IACC examination. The applicant would be paid
as a Trainee Clinical Scientist (Band 6) until the final examination was passed
and HCPC registration was obtained. The applicant would then be expected to
meet all essential criteria of the Band 7 role. It is expected that this
transition from Trainee Band 6 to qualified Band 7 would be completed within 12
months of the applicants start date.
Main duties of the job
South Tyneside
and Sunderland Audiology Service provides a district level adult rehabilitation
service and a sub-regional level service (including Tier 3 paediatric
assessment & rehabilitation and diagnostic audiology).
There are 30 staff
in the department, including 23 Healthcare Scientists, up to 2 Trainee Clinical
Scientists/Audiologists, 1 Audiology Assistant and 4 Admin & Clerical
Support.
There will also be opportunities to contribute to research initiatives and lead service development in the routine adult service, particularly supporting IQIPS accreditation.
Key
responsibilities of the role include:
- Leading
vestibular diagnostic clinics and contributing to the departments DM01
position.
- Performing
tinnitus therapy and vestibular rehabilitation, delivering tailored management
plans.
- Leading
development and service improvement initiatives in the routine adult audiology
stream.
- Engaging
in research, training and quality improvement initiatives.
