We are a
friendly and innovative department looking to recruit an enthusiastic
Audiologist to work in our paediatric service under our new leadership team.
Quality, patient centred care is the focus of the service.
The role will
include leading assessments for children over 4 years of age including
development of a management plan and appropriate onward referral, leading
paediatric hearing aid work for children over 4 years of age and assisting
highly specialised healthcare practitioners in assessment and management of
children under the age of 4.
Main duties of the job
Clinical Skills
Skills and
experience in single tester diagnostic hearing assessments. Fitting, verifying,
evaluating and reviewing hearing aid provision in children over 4 years.
Communicating sensitively and effectively with patients and their families.
Service Development
Devising,
executing and analysing audits with guidance from senior staff. Suggesting
service improvements based on the findings of audits. Developing patient
information and standard operating procedures.
Training
Providing
practical training in paediatric audiology for students and junior members of
staff.
Teamwork
Working
collaboratively as part of the Audiology team and engaging in multidisciplinary
working to ensure holistic patient centred care.
Practicalities
The role will
be based at Sunderland Royal Hospital but community clinics at Washington and
Jarrow will also be covered.
The department
currently operates 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday and most staff choose to work
compressed hours over 4 days.

- Qualified Practitioner knowledge of adult and paediatric diagnostic audiology and aural rehabilitation, aural impression taking, vestibular testing and paediatric testing.
- Good listening and counselling skills.
- IT literate with understanding of Audiology PMS.
- Ability to communicate with patients of all ages, other professionals, and other agencies e.g. Social Services, Education, IT, other Audiological Companies.
- Work calmly and methodically when under pressure from a busy and constantly changing caseload.
- Work effectively without direct supervision.
Qualifications
Essential
- Basic Numeracy & Literacy Skills to Level 1 or equivalent.
- Basic IT Skills.
- Practitioner Training Program (PTP) / BSc Physiology (Audiology), including Clinical Log Book, or equivalent.
- Successfully completed competency associated with BSc or Equivalent (e.g. BAA Part 1 & II examination).
- Documented evidence of study at post graduate and/or M-Level or Equivalent.
- Must be eligible for RCCP state registration and undertake appropriate CPD activity (for example through participation in an accredited CPD scheme.
Desirable
- Mentorship Qualification.
- BAA Practical Assessor.
- Completed BAA HTS module in appropriate area.
Experience
Essential
- Minimum of 2 years experience as an Audiology Practitioner (Band 5).
- Completion or demonstrated aptitude towards completion of HTS in appropriate specialist area.
