We are a
friendly and innovative department looking to recruit an enthusiastic
Audiologist to work in our paediatric service under our new leadership team.
Quality, patient centred care is the focus of the service.
The role will
include newborn assessments, assessments for children under 4 years of age and
paediatric hearing aid work for children of all ages.
Main duties of the job
Clinical Skills
Skills and
experience in newborn and two tester diagnostic hearing assessments. Fitting,
verifying, evaluating and reviewing hearing aid provision in babies and
children of all ages. Communicating sensitively and effectively with patients
and their families.
Service
development
Devising,
executing and analysing audits and employing service improvements based on the
findings. Developing patient information and standard operating procedures.
Training
Providing
practical training in paediatric audiology for students and junior members of
staff.
Teamwork
Working
collaboratively as part of the Audiology team and engaging in multidisciplinary
working to ensure holistic patient centred care.
Practicalities
The role will
be based at Sunderland Royal Hospital but community clinics at Washington and
South Shields may also be covered. There may be the opportunity for home
working in non-patient facing time.
The department currently
operates 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday and most staff choose to work compressed
hours over 4 days.

- Moving and Handling skills with neonates and children
- Ability to conduct audiological measurements of all types related to the job role.
Skills and Knowledge
Essential
- Specialist knowledge of hearing assessment and management for children and neonates.
- In-depth and up-to-date knowledge of developments in the field of Paediatric Audiology (including international developments).
- Basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology relevant to Paediatric Audiology.
- Counselling skills.
- Good report writing and presentation skills the post holder must produce clear and concise reports.
- IT literate with understanding of Audiology Patient Management System.
- Ability to work effectively without direct supervision.
- Proven track record of appropriate CPD through an accredited CPD scheme such as the BAA.

- MSc in Clinical Audiology or equivalent (e.g. BSc Clinical Physiology + Study at M-Level)
- BAA HTS competency (or equivalent) in at least 1 clinical area.

- Registration with the RCCP/AHCS/HCPC as appropriate.

- ILM Management or leadership qualification or equivalent.
