Applications are invited for the post of Endovascular Fellow Vascular Surgery (experienced registrar-level). The successful applicant will work a 1 in 6 vascular/endovascular on-call, with no commitment to General Surgery. The post could suit experienced/post-CCT vascular trainees who wish to train further in routine and complex open and endovascular surgery, prior to appointment as a Consultant. Following a recent re-organisation of regional vascular services, Sunderland (SRH) is now one of 3 tertiary arterial centres for vascular services in the North-East (spoke sites at South Tyneside, Bishop Auckland & Durham). The service consists of 9 Consultant Vascular Surgeons and 4 Specialist Vascular Nurses supported by a full team of junior doctors, nursing and administrative staff, with input from many other services including Interventional Radiology, Stroke Medicine, Diabetes, Medical Physics, Occupational Therapy, Podiatry and Physiotherapy. South Tyneside & Sunderland NHSFT was one of the first UK vascular centres to commission its own dedicated hybrid endovascular theatre (2014) and our GE Discovery 730 system is now scheduled for upgrade to the latest technology GE Allia IGS 740. This operating facility is allocated exclusively for vascular use 24/7. In addition, all Endovascular Surgeons have their own job-planned sessions (totalling 6 sessions/week) in the SRH Radiology Room 5 angiosuite (Siemens Artis Q, installed 2019) for further endovascular capacity
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will be actively involved in the planning and delivery of routine percutaneous endovascular procedures, hybrid cases including complex aorto-iliac re-canalisation using fusion imaging and endovascular aneurysm repair (conventional & complex). There will also be dedicated surgeon-led sessions in the angiosuite and ambulatory endovenous intervention. Endovascular planning and training will be offered on TeraRecon software and GE Fusion packages.
Specific features to this fellowship include:
Dedicated, timetabled angiosuite (surgeon-led) and hybrid-theatre training lists
Standard high-volume endovascular caseload experience (i.e. catheter angiography, iliac/femoro-popliteal angioplasty/stenting, lysis, tibial intervention)
Renal arterio-venous endovascular intervention
Endovascular case planning (routine/complex peripheral and aortic) using contemporary software packages e.g. TeraRecon
IRMER training certification (if required)
Complete Independent Hybrid theatre operating (i.e. without Radiologist or Radiographer)
Image optimization and post-processing
Hybrid imaging hardware driving/intra-operative image manipulation
Training in Fusion-guided endovascular intervention
Vascular duplex scanning training sessions as required
Independent/Supervised endo-venous lists (RFA/EVLA/foam sclerotherapy)

Active participation is expected in the departmental meetings, rota management and departmental junior doctor teaching programmes. Clinical audit projects are actively encouraged in the department, whilst participation in clinical governance and morbidity & mortality meetings is mandatory.
Applicants should possess full GMC registration and possession of the Intercollegiate Examination in General Surgery is desirable but not essential. Salary will be at an appropriate point on pay-scale.

- Dealing with both routine and emergency admissions
- Be involved in complex clinical, patient management problems and inter-disciplinary planning treatment
