Job summary

South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to recruit a motivated and passionate neonatal clinical practitioner to work within the neonatal intensive care unit. This post is a development role and it is envisaged that the successful applicant would go on to undertake neonatal advanced clinical practice training once foundation training achieved.

This post will be based in the neonatal department of South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation trust and the post-holder would be expected to contribute to the provision of the neonatal intensive care service which includes nights and weekends. This post would be suitable for an enthusiastic and motivated neonatal nurse or midwife who has completed a newborn examination university module and is seeking a progression role to neonatal advanced clinical practice.

The successful candidate will be a motivated and dedicated nurse or midwife with leadership and management skills at a senior level. They need to have a passion for high quality patient care, well-developed communication skills and a positive, mature and professional attitude.

The Neonatal Service based at Sunderland Royal Hospital offers a range of Neonatal Intensive Care facilities and is the lead provider for babies requiring intensive care from Durham, Gateshead, Northumbria and Carlisle who are 26 weeks gestation and above. There are approximately 4000 deliveries and the Neonatal Unit has 7 ITU/HDU cots and 9 Special care cots.

Main duties of the job

This post sits within the remit of the Neonatal Tier 1 medical rota and as a result you will be required to participate in the care of babies throughout the service from the postnatal wards to providing care in the low and high dependency care areas. You would be joining an existing practitioner workforce.

You should be enthusiastic and flexible in your approach, with a commitment to providing excellence in neonatal care. In return you will be joining a friendly, supportive, highly motivated team.

Continuing professional development is encouraged and you will be expected to participate actively in research, quality and safety, audit and guidelines. It is anticipated that additional university module completion will be required as part of the role.
