We have
an opportunity for a motivated and confident individual to join our Northern
Neonatal Network as a Nurse Educator.
Are you
an experienced neonatal nurse, who wants to transition into education/teaching,
or an established neonatal educator who would like to work across the NNN to
develop consistency and assurance of education provided? If so, come and work at the NNN.
The
Nurse Educator will undertake the lead role in delivering education, training,
and practice development across neonatal services within the ODN. You will be responsible
for leading in the planning and provision of educational events to meet the
objectives of the Network. This will also include the stabilisation programme,
working closely with the Lead for Education.
The role is a fixed
term contract of 2 years, possible secondment opportunity. It is predominantly
home based with the expectation of travel to NNN office at Sunderland Royal
Hospital, and all neonatal units within the NNN.
Main duties of the job
This role is
within the NNN, it will cover education provision in all 10 neonatal units
within the NENC.
The main duty
is to is to work across the region to embed a sustainable Qualified In
Speciality Course (QIS) which meets the full recommendations in the published
national standards. This includes mapping current provision of training for
neonatal nurses, scoping of alternative future pathways if required, programme
re-evaluation/re-design to ensure the NNN ODN is assured of the quality of all
education, mapping of placement capacity within NICUs in NNN to include
Practice Assessor/Practice Supervisor provision. Embedding the foundation
element of QIS via an online learning platform (Moodle), being an expert on the
training platform and supporting other unit-based educators with use of the
platform.
This
role also has a requirement to ensure quality assurance of the education
provided by completion of QIS implementation matrix and other quality assurance
measures.
There is
an expectation that with other members of the NNN team you will actively
support implementing agreed pathways of care and provide associated training.

The Northern Neonatal
Network Operational Delivery Network (NNN ODN) encompasses the North East of
England and North Cumbria (NENC). Within the NNN ODN there are 8 provider
Trusts, and 10 neonatal units, these include 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Units
(NICU), neonatal surgery is within one of these NICUs, and 7 Special Care
Units (SCU). In addition, there is one neonatal transport provider to provide
safe transfers of premature and sick infants across the NENC, and beyond if
required. It is clinical and operational in focus, as its
purpose is to deliver high quality care that produces the best possible
outcomes for babies and their families. A key element of this is the delivery of
regional education and training programmes.
As
an Operational Delivery Network, we continue to lead and help deliver the
recommendations of the Neonatal Critical Care Review (NCCR) in which developing
the expert neonatal workforce is essential to give the
highest possible standard of safe, effective care to babies and their families.
The Nurse Educator will
