Job summary

Applications are invited for the post of Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology with an interest in Fetal Medicine.

We are looking for an enthusiastic colleaguewith a flexible approach to provide an efficient service for patients/women who attend the Obstetrics and Gynaecology departments in Sunderland Royal Hospital and South Tyneside District Hospital.

The successful applicant will be encouraged to take a lead or support colleagues in the Obstetric Lead roles including Obstetric Quality and Safety, Labour ward lead, fetal monitoring including development of relevant guidelines etc. They should also play and active role in education and training. The successful candidate will be encouraged to develop other special interests based on service requirements.

Applicants must be a holder of MRCOG, be eligible for the GMC Specialist Register in Obstetrics and Gynaecology within six months of the time of interview. Applicants must hold RCOG ATSM or Equivalent in Fetal Medicine

Main duties of the job

Applicants must also have excellent organisational and communication skills, be a good team worker and have experience in training undergraduates and postgraduates. Direct involvement in delivery of NIHR portfolio clinical research trials is highly desirable.

The successful applicant will need to work closely within a team of consultants who have similar interests and will share Fetal Medicine scan sessions and High-risk antenatal clinics across both South Tyneside and Sunderland hospitals. The Fetal Medicine pregnancy team of consultants will support each other to deliver the high-risk specialty clinics, high risk screening, growth, multiple pregnancy and congenital abnormalities. The post holder must be willing to contribute to medium risk antenatal clinics, labour ward management and Caesarean Section Lists to support Ockenden recommendations. The successful candidate will be expected to support fetal medicine MDT meetings and engage fully with specific fetal medicine governance including MBBRACE, MNSI, PMRT reviews and neonatal and perinatal Morbidity and mortality meetings. The successful candidate will be on call for both Obstetrics and Gynaecology so Gynaecology sessions (DCU theatre and possibly GOPD) would be included the job plan to maintain gynaecology on call skills.

  • Full GMC registration
  • MRCOG or appropriate specialist qualification
  • Relevant CCT or equivalent (equivalence must be confirmed by GMC by date of AAC)
  • Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register or eligibility for entry within 6 months of the date of the AAC
