Job summary

South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to recruit a motivated and passionate trust grade doctor to work within the neonatal intensive care unit. The post is fixed term for 12 months with proposed start date of 6th August 2025.

This post will be based in the neonatal department of South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation trust and the post-holder would be expected to contribute to the provision of the neonatal intensive care and postnatal ward service and take part in the tier 1 medical rota which includes nights and weekends.

Main duties of the job

The neonatal unit has 4 intensive care cots, 3 high dependency cots and 9 special care cots and provides intensive care for babies from 26 weeks gestation onwards. There is a tier of middle-grade paediatricians and advanced neonatal nurse practitioners who cover both the general paediatric wards and neonatal unit and separate tier of ANNPs and medical staff at junior level.

The intensive care cots are fully equipped to provide medical intensive care including HFOV, inhaled nitric oxide and therapeutic hypothermia. The unit has excellent outcomes against NNAP standards and is one of three intensive care neonatal units based in the northern region.

Continuing professional development is encouraged and you will be expected to participate actively in research, quality and safety, audit and guidelines.
