This is an exciting opportunity to join the sexual health team in Sunderland. The postholder will deliver high-quality, inclusive clinical care across Sunderland and play an active role in service development, improving access, equity and outcomes for local communities.
Candidates should have the following:
- Medical Degree:MBBS or equivalent.
- Registration:Full GMC registration with a License to Practice.
- Specialization:Entry on the GMC Specialist Register (or within 6 months of CCT) in Genitourinary Medicine or Community Sexual and Reproductive Health.
- Accreditations:Membership of the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare (MFSRH) and letters of competence for IUT/SD. Dip GUM
- Experience:Extensive experience in Contraception Community Gynaecology GUM, HIV, and Reproductive Health.
- Communication:Exceptional communication skills for delivering sensitive information.
- Leadership:Ability to motivate a multidisciplinary team and manage change.
- Sensitive Approach:Ability to work in a non-judgmental, inclusive, and compassionate manner.
- Analytical Skills:Ability to assess complex symptoms and situations.
Main duties of the job
Main duties of the role include:
- Expert Clinical Practice:Provide high-quality clinical care, including the assessment and treatment of complex Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs), HIV care, and comprehensive contraception (including LARC fitting).
- Termination of pregnancy service
- Clinical Leadership:Lead day-to-day clinical management in sexual health clinics, including supervising junior doctors, nurses, and trainees.
- Service Development:Contribute to the strategic development of integrated sexual health services, improving quality in line with BASHH, BHIVA, and CoSRH guidelines.
- Complex Cases:Manage complex contraceptive cases, community gynaecology and menopause cases , and patients with significant psychosocial, emotional, or sexual difficulties.
- Safeguarding:Ensure robust safeguarding practices for vulnerable adults and children, working within Fraser Guidelines and Gillick Competencies.
- Training & Education:Provide clinical supervision, teaching for medical students, and training for GP trainees.
- Governance & Audit:Participate in clinical audit, clinical governance, and research to improve service standards.
- Opportunities in the acute trust to continue skills in office gynecology and / or colposcopy
