Job summary
South Tyneside
and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust is looking to recruit a motivated, dynamic
and passionate paediatrician for the post of Consultant in Community Child
Health. This post would be suitable for a paediatrician with specialist
interest in community child health or neurodisability. A hybrid role with acute
general paediatrics would also be considered.
This post will
be based in our exciting, friendly and expanding department delivering
healthcare for children and young people across the area of South Tyneside and
Sunderland.
Our community
child health and disability teams run a wide range of comprehensive services
including child development, neurodisability, cared for and vulnerable
children, adoption and fostering, safeguarding. The department has a strong
commitment to service development and teaching and applicants with shared
enthusiasm for these areas are encouraged. Our team has a broad range of
expertise and the successful applicant could have a variety of developed or
developing skill sets and find a fulfilling role within our department. The post holder would contribute to the acute
child protection rota.

Main duties of the job
The postholder
will join the existing team of community child health and neurodisability
paediatricians as well as the wider community paediatric team including
specialist nurses, Cared for Health Team, speech and language therapists,
physiotherapists and occupational therapists.
Overall
responsibilities include contributing to the co-ordination and delivery of the
operational aspects of the service and it is envisaged that the successful
candidate will also undertake a lead role within the community child health
service.
The successful
candidate would have responsibility for general community, neurodisability or
any other specialist clinics undertaken. They would likely participate in the
department safeguarding rota and conduct secondary health assessments in Cared
for Health clinics. This may include advice to prospective adopters, and the opportunity
to work into the adoption service as the team continues to evolve.
A standard job
plan is based on 10 programmed activities (PAs) 8.5 of which are clinical PAs.
