Job summary

We have two exciting opportunities to join the Paediatric Department of South Tyneside and Sunderland Foundation Trust as a part time Medical Secretary. We are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic person with a flexible approach to join our existing team. You will provide secretarial and admin support to the clinical teams, ensuring a first class service is delivered to our patients. The post holder will work within a small team of secretarial and admin staff ensuring all administrative processes are followed to provide a streamlined service to our patients, parents, consultants and external agencies. We have a 15 hour and a 30 hour post predominantly based at the Childrens Centre, Durham Road, Sunderland, you may however be expected to cover other locations.

Main duties of the job

The role primarily involves typing correspondence, managing patient appointments, dealing with phone queries, managing clinical diaries and rotas, validating waiting lists alongside other secretarial and administrative duties which contribute to the efficient running of the Paediatric department.

Applicants should possess AMSPAR, OCR, RSA Level 3 or equivalent typing/keyboard qualification or have 2 years proven experience in a similar role. Knowledge of medical terminology and experience in audio typing is desirable but not essential. Applicants will need excellent organisational skills, a flexible approach to work and possess an empathetic nature to be able to confidently deal with patient queries. Level 2 numeracy and literacy skills are essential to the post and MUST be shown in your application, if these qualifications arent listed in your application you will not be shortlisted
