South Tyneside
and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust are seeking to Appoint a Trust Grade Doctor
at F3/CT1 level for the Adult Emergency Department at Sunderland Royal Hospital.
Suitable for doctors who have completed Foundation Programme training (or
equivalent) and will be based at Sunderland Royal Hospital commencing February
2025.
The Trust has
Emergency Departments at both Sunderland Royal Hospital and South Tyneside
Hospital with the Department at Sunderland benefiting from 24/7 Middle Grade
presence and 16 hours of ED consultant supervision, seven days per week. There is a
well-established programme for induction as well as Emergency Nurse
Practitioner, Junior Doctor and Middle Grade teaching programmes. Fourth and
fifth year medical students and PA students regularly rotate through the ED and
the Department has access to low-fidelity simulation equipment and a strong
relationship with the Education Centre which has other teaching facilities and
equipment.
Clinical
working time will be a combination of day, late and night shifts as well as
weekend working.
This Post is
not recognised for training by the Post-graduate Dean although you will be allocated to a clinical supervisor, and have the opportunity
for supervised learning and feedback. You will also have access to departmental
training meetings and local teaching.

Main duties of the job
You will have an understanding of the principles of clinical audit,
clinical governance and evidence-based medicine. These are actively-practiced
in the Department and contributions are actively-supported and encouraged.
You will be expected to assess, investigate, treat and refer
appropriately patients of all descriptions across the Emergency Department and
Urgent Treatment Centre. You have a duty to seek advice and support as needed in the assessment of these patients.
You must have
a thorough up-to date knowledge of resuscitation techniques and take a major
role in the employment of these in the resuscitation of critically-ill and
injured patients brought into the Department.
You must ensure that all relevant documentation is completed for each
patient seen, including the required data input for the Departmental computer
systems and the generation of a GP letter.
You will be encouraged to update your knowledge and skills by
attending appropriate courses/meetings. Appraisal will be used to monitor
progress throughout the Post and to identify future training needs. You will
be supported by a clinical and educational supervisor for the duration of the Post and are expected to keep a log of your continuous professional
development.
