South Tyneside and Sunderland Foundation trust are looking to
appoint two Trust Grade F3 resident posts to Acute Medicine on the Sunderland
site. The posts will commence in August 2026 for 12 months. Applicants must
have experience of working in the UK National Health Service within the last 12
months. On call commitments will include long days, weekends and nights.
The job will be
based on the Emergency Assessment Unit (EAU) and Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC).
This is an exciting opportunity to develop your skills and experience in the
recognition and management of acutely ill patients. Reviewing patients on SDEC
will develop your understanding of its place in admission avoidance. You will
work alongside our multidisciplinary professionals and require good
communication skills. There is weekly departmental teaching with opportunity to
present. An introduction to point of care ultrasound by trained consultants is
available for those interested. We would encourage participation in our
governance processes including Clinical Governance meetings, Audit and Quality
Improvement projects
You will be provided with a clinical supervisor who will be able
to support learning and provide feedback. This post, however, is not a
recognised post for training by the Post graduate Dean but will support
development in skills required of an Acute Medicine doctor.
Main duties of the job
As a
member of the Acute Medicine team you will ensure we are able to meet the
excellent standard of care we expect for our patients by:
- Clerking new admissions and initiating
management plans on EAU, reviewing patients on SDEC and initiating management
plans with supervision provided from specialty trainees and consultants.
- Provide a medical
review of patients on EAU/SDEC when concerns of clinical deterioration have
been raised.
- Holding the bleep for GP referrals
that have attended ED for medicine.
- Participate in ward rounds and
complete the tasks allocated, including referrals and ensuring appropriate
handover.
- Liaising with specialties and communicating with families.
- Forming part of the resuscitation team
with opportunity to demonstrate leadership skills.
- Completion of practical procedures
including venepuncture, cannulation, ascitic taps and lumbar punctures.
- Participate in teaching and clinical governance processes.
