Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity to work in a modern and
fast paced Emergency Department while building experience and exposure to
Pre-hospital Emergency Medicine. Sunderland Royal Hospital ED benefits from
24/7 Middle Grade Cover and Consultant cover 16 hours a day, 7 days a week. Of
our 19 Consultants, 4 work in the pre-hospital field with GNAAS and Sunderland
is the base unit within the North East for the PHEM Specialty Trainee.
This post is designed for you to gain experience in looking
after patients as part of a diverse team in the ED whilst gaining experience of
the provision of care in the pre-hospital field. This experience will be gained
by close working with NEAS and GNAAS with the opportunity for clinical shifts,
training exposure and QIP as well as other self-directed experiences. This post
would be ideal for anyone wishing to develop a portfolio to aid application to
PHEM training and as such prior experience in either Emergency Medicine or
Critical Care is essential.
Main duties of the job
The
Trust has Emergency Departments at both Sunderland Royal Hospital and South
Tyneside Hospital. There is a well-established programme for induction as well
as Emergency Nurse Practitioner, Junior Doctor and Middle Grade teaching which
you will be able to engage in.
Fourth
and fifth year medical students regularly rotate through the ED and the
department has access to low fidelity simulation equipment and a strong
relationship with the Education Centre which has other teaching facilities and
equipment.
Clinical working time
will be a combination of day, late and night shifts as well as weekend working
with a balance of 80% time working in ED and 20% of time working towards PHEM
experience.
This post is not recognised for training by the Postgraduate Dean.
Although not recognised for training, the successful
candidate will be allocated to a clinical supervisor with PHEM experience, and
have the opportunity for supervised learning and feedback. They will also have access to department
training meetings and local teaching.
