Part Time-36 hours

We have an exciting opportunity for a part time Emergency Department Receptionist to join our Urgent and Emergency Care department.

To provide a comprehensive administrative support service for the main Emergency Department and Urgent Treatment Centre 24 hours per day, 365 days a year.

The role has specific responsibility to accurately record patient details.

The role will require working across a 7-day rota with the variable shift patterns over a 24 hour day.

The flexible approach to provide a comprehensive administrative support service for alternative admin support within the Urgent and Emergency Care Directorate.

To provide a full range of clerical and reception duties to support the professional qualified health care workers in the delivery of a quality service for all patients who attend the units.

Main duties of the job

Patient administration underpins the patient journey and supports clinical teams in delivering high quality patient care and can make a real difference to the patient experience. The post holder has a responsibility for the provision of a professional, comprehensive and efficient administrative service, which is effectively delivered to all patients and members of the Department. This will be through the delivery of a comprehensive administrative service.

Be the first point of contact for patients and other visitors to the department.

Be responsible for registering patients in a timely and efficient way.

Be competent with taking telephone calls and have good telephone manner.

Be competent and have good computer skills.

Have good communication and interpersonal skills.

Be approachable and friendly.

Be able to work calmly under pressure.

Be able to demonstrate sensitivity and discretion when dealing with matters that are confidential in nature.

Be able to contribute to being part of a hard-working and dynamic team.

A flexible approach is essential, as is your ability to become a key contributor to the administrative team whilst using your initiative and adapting well to change.

  • Previous reception/clerical experience in a pressurized environment.

Desirable

  • NHS experience or a large organization.
  • Ability to deal with difficult situations using tact and empathy.

Qualifications

  • Educated to Level 2 or GCSE (5-9) standard in Maths and English or equivalent.
  • Recognised IT qualification or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of Administrative systems.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of Medical Terminology.
  • Knowledge of V6 system.
