Job summary

South Tyneside and Sunderland Foundation NHS Trust are looking for general Radiologists to join our team performing approximately 360,000 examinations a year. The Department of Radiology at South Tyneside and Sunderland is a large busy department hosted across two main acute sites with services at multiple peripheral sites in the community. There is a full range of modern, recently-acquired, imaging equipment across both acute sites with five static CT scanners and three static MRI scanners. This is supplemented by a new large purpose-built Diagnostic Imaging Centre at South Tyneside, with two CT scanners, two MRI scanners and a PET CT scanner to be installed. As well as diagnostic work the Department has an IR suite based at Sunderland Royal Hospital with further interventional rooms at South Tyneside. These are supported by an efficient Day Case service on both sites.

Main duties of the job

A Hospital Consultant has continuous responsibility for any patient under his or her care.

Final Job Plans will be agreed in discussion between you and the Clinical Director and will be subject to Annual Review.

Some sessions, in particular audit and teaching sessions, will be worked flexibly and there will be the opportunity to revise the fixed procedural sessional timetable to accommodate your other commitments.

You are expected to attend monthly Directorate meetings. The Clinical Director is Ben Hall, Consultant Radiologist.

You will be expected to develop the Service in-keeping with national guidance and the Local Modernisation and Reform Group priorities/targets.

Consultant performance is monitored within the Directorate and strong emphasis is given to personal career development.
