Job summary
We are looking to recruit either existing, or Graduate Band
5 Occupational Therapists onto our physical specialities rotation based between
South Tyneside Hospital, Sunderland Royal Hospital, Sunderland Recovery at Home
and South Tyneside Recovery at Home.
This is a great opportunity to develop clinical skills within several
different teams while working with a diverse range of patients and their
presenting conditions. The rotation covers the following specialities:
South Tyneside Hospital Medicine and Orthopaedics/Surgery
Sunderland Royal Hospital Medicine and Surgery, Care of
the Elderly, Acute Stroke/Neurology, Interface Team, Trauma and Orthopaedics.
Independent Living Centre Sunderland Recovery at Home
Therapy Team.
Clarendon, Hebburn South Tyneside Recovery at Home
Therapy Team.
Our teams are large, friendly and supportive and
supervision will be provided by a senior therapist. We are also proud to have an established and
proactive Band 5 support group who plan their own CPD activities and provide
peer support. We also have excellent
links with our community partners to work better together for the people of
South Tyneside and Sunderland and the surrounding areas.
Main duties of the job
Our rotation gives the opportunity to experience OT
intervention with patients throughout the whole acute patient journey. Our Interface Team work into ED and short
stay areas to help prevent hospital admission or facilitate discharge; our OT
inpatient teams assess patients for discharge from base wards and our Recovery
at Home Therapy Team assess patients at home on discharge from hospital as well
as responding to situations to help prevent admission to hospital. All teams work to the nationally driven
principles of Home First and Discharge to Assess. In each area you will be responsible for
assessing the functional needs of your patients and assessing for any necessary
aids or equipment. You will need to have
excellent organisation and time management skills, interpersonal and
communication skills, and have the ability to document your patient
interventions. Due to the need to visit
patients homes as part of the assessment and intervention process, you must be
able to meet the travel requirements of the role. All
posts are full-time, 37.5 hours per week.
For inpatient areas the working pattern is Monday to Friday, with
some weekends and bank holidays on a rota basis. The Interface Team work shifts across seven
days working three days one week and four days the next, including some
weekends and bank holidays. The Recovery at Home Therapy Team covers 8am to 8pm over seven days with the
option to work hours flexibly over either four or five days per week.
