South Tyneside
and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust (STSFT) podiatry departments became one
department and team from the September 2021.
We are looking for motivated and enthusiastic persons to help and
develop the service and work towards being a centre of excellence.
Successful
candidates will be allocated their own individual mentor to support their own
individual learning needs and is always provided in a supportive culture. The
service has well developed High Risk Diabetes Acute and Community, Nail Surgery
and Biomechanics services providing seamless referral pathways.
The service has
successfully employed a Clinical Educator that will be responsible for the
development of all grades of staff including student placements. As a department we are also supporting a
number of Band 4 Podiatry Assistants to undertake the Band 5 Apprentice
programme starting in January 2024. With
all our Band 4 Podiatry Assistants having successfully completed the scalpel
module and therefore supporting the expansion of their case load.
This post
supports primarily the Sunderland Primary Care Network, providing specialist
podiatry, interventions, offloading, advice and education to patients and staff
residing in their own homes, working in an integrated holistic approach with
our community partners-nursing teams, GPs and Therapy teams.
Main duties of the job
The role also
provides an opportunity to support and work into community clinics and nail
surgery. Therefore work is varied and provides exposure to different working
environments and relationships
The post provides
excellent leadership qualities/opportunities; supporting the development of
band 3, 4 and 5s and supporting students placements.
Candidates must
demonstrate excellent communication and organisational skills and are able to
operate effectively on their own and within a team.

The job operates
Monday Friday normally working hours are 8.30am 4.30pm.
The
Trust has an onsite gym and has a Training and Education Centre.

The podiatry team in this setting is a small well developed and supportive team. The team can function with flexibility and the service is looking to purchase pool care to support travel arrangements.The Band 6 posts will support the Band 7 Podiatrists in the management of this complex patient group.

- BSc (Hons) Podiatric Medicine (essential) or equivalent
- Local Analgesia Certificate (essential).
- Completion of band 5 competency programme in nail surgery, wound care and biomechanics
- Evidence of a portfolio to demonstrate the above
- Clinical educator or working towards clinical educator competency
Desirable
- Cert Ed/Teaching Certificate

- Reflective practice and portfolio of learning of Podiatric Degree
- Substantial experience of working in the NHS
