Job summary
Due to the current post-holder being awarded a 3 year
research grant, we have an exciting opportunity for an expert level therapist
to join our nationally acclaimed Head and Neck/ENT SALT team. You be vital to
the delivery of the service across the sub-regional area and will work within
the team to provide clinical leadership as well as delivering a clinical
service at the highest level.
You will have significant skills and experience working in head
and neck/ENT and you will take the lead in our head and neck cancer service. You
will work closely with the clinical leads in dysphonia and laryngectomy to
ensure we take forward our integrated service to meet future needs. You will
also work closely with colleagues from other regional centres. You will be
skilled in leading instrumental assessment clinics as well as taking forward
the service to support patients throughout w their journey. You will work as
part of the MDT and will be key to implementing our strategy for
rehabilitation, survivorship, patient engagement and research.
Main duties of the job
As Clinical Lead Speech and Language Therapist in Head and
Neck Cancer you will be joining a well-established innovative team of Speech
and Language Therapists who work closely with the head and neck/ENT MDTs to
provide a service to people with head and neck cancer across hospital and
community locations.
You will be involved in a range of MDT clinics including
weekly MDT head and neck clinic, pre-treatment clinic and follow up radiotherapy
clinic. You will also work with in-patients and out-patients who have head and
neck cancer and you will be passionate about patient centred care to support
patients across the length of their care pathway. You will have skills in
assessment, diagnostics, rehabilitation and palliative/best-supportive care.
You will also be involved in regular laryngectomy, VF,
stroboscopy and FEES clinics as lead therapist. You will be committed to team
working and to developing other staff too. You will support less experienced
therapists through supervision. You will be well supported to further extend
your scope of practice within our nationally regarded Speech and Language
Therapy team and ENT MDT.
The Sunderland Speech and Language Therapy team has a strong
research background and you will be encouraged to develop your skills in this
area to ensure we translate innovation and research outcomes into practice.
