Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust as an Apprentice Physiotherapy Assistant. Successful applicants will undertake a formal apprenticeship training programme, in order to gain the knowledge, skills and competence to work as a Physiotherapy Assistant.

We are a friendly and welcoming department, looking for enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our Inpatient Physiotherapy Team and will be given opportunity to advance and consolidate your knowledge and skills and provide ongoing therapy to a wide range of patients at Sunderland Royal Hospital.

The duration of the apprenticeship is 24 months which is subject to regular reviews to demonstrate progress. Apprentices will commence on Annex 21* of the salary stated and to support the development in the role, the postholder is required to complete L3 Senior Healthcare Support Worker Apprenticeship Standard over the period of the apprenticeship. Maths and English minimum GCSE Grade C/Grade 4 or minimum Level 2 or above Maths and English equivalent, is essential for the post. Following the successful completion of the apprenticeship the apprentice will moved into a substantive position.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will work as part of the physiotherapy team to give high quality care and facilitate discharge.

The role is fundamentally about supporting the provision of therapy services within the NHS environment, ensuring optimal patient care. The person will work as part of the therapy team and under the supervision of a qualified therapist, at times working independently with patients with non-complex conditions. This role includes weekend working.

The main duties of the job include:

To assist the physiotherapist and senior therapy assistants with the assessment and treatment of patients.

To provide any mobility aids to patients.

To undertake admin tasks, other non-clinical duties and control stock levels of equipment.

To comply with Trust policies.

Key requirements: good interpersonal skills, problem solving approach to tasks, ability to work independently and collaboratively within teams, ability to manage time effectively, ability to work effectively under pressure.
