Job summary
This Nuclear Medicine Clinical Technologist Post forms part of a
team dedicated to providing high-quality Medical Physics services across South
Tyneside & Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust and Queen Elizabeth Hospital,
Gateshead.
The Service is managed by South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS
Foundation Trust and provides about 10,000 diagnostic nuclear medicine patient
investigations per year.
The hours of the Post are 37.5 hours per week, generally 7.5 hours
per-day, Monday to Friday, and usually between 07:15 and 18:00 (depending on
duties). You may be required to work on
projects at any of the three Units, but the main part of your role will be
based at South Tyneside/Sunderland Royal Hospital.
Those who are not currently registered with either the
Voluntary Register of Clinical Technologists (VRCT) or Registration with the
Health Care Professions Council (HCPC), will be considered for the role.
Successful Candidates without registration will be Appointed to a Band 5
Healthcare Scientist Practitioner role on fixed-term contract up to 12 months
to allow time to obtain Registration. If the necessary Registration and
competencies are not achieved within this 12-month period, the Appointee will
remain at Band 5 and the fixed-term Contract will end upon its expiry.

Main duties of the job
Currently the Service has a solid state SPECT / CT scanner, three
dual detector gamma cameras, a dedicated cardiac camera and two bone
densitometers.
Duties
include preparation, dispensing and administration of sterile radioactive
materials; acquisition of imaging data, analysing and calculating results and
the disposal of radioactive waste material.
You
will be working within a friendly, multidisciplinary team of clinical
scientists, technologists, medical, nursing and clerical staff.
To
obtain the optimum information from each individual patient investigation to
facilitate speedy and accurate diagnosis of their clinical condition.
To
ensure the safety, care and welfare of each patient (many being seriously ill)
throughout their investigation.
To
operate complex nuclear medicine equipment and bone densitometry X-ray
equipment with precision and dexterity and in a safe manner.
To maintain all standards and working practices
necessary for the safe handling and use of radioactive materials.
