Job summary
South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust (STSFT) are seeking a Aseptic Services Manager to act as the technical lead for our Aseptic Services Unit. This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in the safe, compliant, and efficient delivery of aseptically-prepared medicines that directly support patient care across the Trust.
You will be a pharmacy technician with strong technical services experience, demonstrable knowledge of GMP, QA systems, and regulatory frameworks, ideally with, or working towards, a postgraduate PTQA qualification, and have a passion for delivering excellent, patient-centred aseptic services.
You will be responsible to the Production Manager / Accountable Pharmacist for aseptic services including the provision of advice on aseptic production, GMP, and safe handling of injectable medicines delivery, and to the wider Directorate, to ensure a cohesive and responsive service.
As the Aseptic Services Manager, you will support the Accountable Pharmacist by providing operational leadership and line-management to the Aseptic team, ensuring that all activities meet NHS, MHRA, GMP, and internal governance requirements.
You will contribute to service transformation, innovation, and preparation; and play a key role during upcoming major service development projects over the next decade to meet the challenges of the modern NHS technical services landscape.
Main duties of the job
The key areas of responsibility are:
Provide strategic and day-to-day leadership and operational management of the STSFT Aseptic Unit, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality production. This includes routine management of the facilities and environment, the aseptic preparation service, and the staff working within the Unit.
Oversee production planning, capacity management, and service resilience to meet the increase in service delivery required to meet treatment targets for cancer patients.
Act as the Aseptic Services Manager, working alongside the Accountable Pharmacist in maintaining oversight of governance, quality systems, and regulatory compliance in-line with national standards and local policies for the Aseptic unit which operates under the Section 10 exemption of the Medicines Act.
Actively-support quality assurance, deviation management, CAPAs, risk assessments, and validation processes for future regulatory inspections to ensure the Aseptic unit complies with appropriate standards for Section 10 exception and ensure that a robust Pharmaceutical Quality System (PQS) is in place.
Support staff training, competency assessment, and professional / technical development across the Aseptic workforce to ensure all staff involved in the preparation and supply of aseptically-prepared products clearly understand their level of responsibility and accountability, and are competent, and accredited where applicable, to carry out the duties within their role.
