Job summary
South Tyneside
and Sunderland Podiatry Service are looking for motivated and enthusiastic
person to help and develop the service and work towards being a centre of
excellence.
Successful
candidates will be allocated their own individual mentor to support the
completion of the internal band 5 competency programme and will also be
supported by the relevant specialist when completing rotations into nail
surgery, wound care and biomechanics. Mentorship is provided in a supportive
culture and is always based on the individual learning needs and their pace of
learning. Candidates will also have to complete the Trusts preceptorship
programme within the first 6 months, this programme is completed by all AHPs
and nursing staff and provides an excellent insight to integrated working,
health and safety and the Governance arrangements within the Trust.
Candidates must
demonstrate excellent communication and organisational skills and are able to
operate effectively on their own and within a team.
STSFT podiatry
support a flexible working environment.
The job operates
Monday Friday normally working hours are 8.30am 4.30pm but can support
evening or weekend working.
The Trust has an
onsite gym and has a Training and Education Centre.

programme including core podiatry, nail surgery, biomechanics and wound care.

- BSc (Hons) Podiatric Medicine (essential) or equivalent.
- Local analgesia administration certificate
Skills and Knowledge
Essential
- Good communication skills are essential
- You will be required to ask patients questions about their health as part of the assessment process.
- You will be required to provide health education as part of this role- giving patients information about their foot and overall health. You must have the ability to tailor information to the individual patient and their level of understanding.
- You will be required to communicate effectively with other members of the podiatry team and other health care professionals, e.g. make referrals nail surgery, wound care, biomechanics, liaise with the GP about the patients overall health and signpost to other services.
- You will be required to record the assessment and treatment notes into the patient electronic record and produce GP letters.
- Ability to work in a wider team as well as using own initiate initiative
- Good organisational skills, as you will be managing your own caseload and also expected to accept responsibility for the day-to-day running of the clinics in which you work.
- Demonstrate understanding and knowledge in the management of a caseload with a high proportion of increased risk patients and be able to demonstrate referral pathways.
- Demonstrate ability to use vascular and sensory equipment.
