The Physiotherapy
Service in South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust are providing an
exciting opportunity for applications for a Physiotherapy Apprenticeship role.
The successful applicant will provide high standard physiotherapy within the
Trust whilst undertaking level 6 study toward a BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy
Degree.
Successful completion of this course will enable you to register with the HCPC as a qualified Physiotherapist and be eligible to apply for a Band 5 Physiotherapy post once the qualification is gained.
You will be provided with the opportunity to work in a variety of physiotherapy specialties across the Trust.
A Physiotherapy
Mentor will be assigned to you to support you through the programme. This will
enable you to use knowledge, skill and competence gained on the programme to
support the health and care system whilst progressing with your degree,
developing towards being responsible for the management of your own caseload.
You must be able
to demonstrate the appropriate values and attitude for the programme through an
interview with your employer and University. You must be able to work at least
30 hours per week and meet the essential requirements for the post.
The post holder will work towards providing clinically effective assessment and treatment of patients referred to the physiotherapy service. You will contribute towards maintaining an environment that is conducive to the delivery and maintenance of high standard of patient care.
Main duties of the job
Key information:
To attend University and Clinical Placements as set out in the
degree programme.
There are no course fees.
The applicant must meet the minimum academic requirements for the
course.
The post holder is released one day a week to attend the course/
study and released from duty for clinical placements, all additional study is
in the post holder's own time.
The post holder remains in employment whilst attending the course.
The successful candidate must be employed by the trust for a
minimum of 30 hours per week to be eligible for this role.
Continuous
progression towards providing high standard physiotherapy. This will include working and studying in a
variety of specialties across physiotherapy.
You will need to
have excellent communication and organisational skills, a flexible approach to
work and negotiation skills to motivate patients to deliver high standards of
care. You will work closely as part of the MDT and will have the opportunity to
work alongside clinical specialists in different service areas in order to
develop a wide range of skills.
Consolidate
knowledge and expand clinical skills across a variety of physiotherapy areas.
Establish good communications and relationships within the physiotherapy
service, other professions, other services, patients and visitors.

To complete and pass academic modules and clinical placements to
the required standard in order to progress through the programme.
To ensure timely achievement in accordance with the academic
programme requirements.
To complete and pass the End Point Assessment.
Whilst in your substantive role, work alongside HCPC registered
Physiotherapists and other professionals to develop knowledge, skills and
competence to progress your
education and training.
Recognise
and consistently work within the boundaries of your role: unless supervised by
a HCPC registrant Physiotherapist, only undertake activity that has been
competency assessed.
Work as
part of a team to deliver care that focuses on the direct care needs of the
individual, delivered in line with the defined plans of care.
