Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for current B6 Clinical Pharmacists to apply for a progression Post which will allow for the transition into a B7 Specialist Clinical Pharmacist on achievement of set parameters to work within our Integrated Medicines Management (IMM) service.

We operate a seven-day clinical service and benefits from full electronic prescribing, electronic decision support and care planning and automated dispensaries. You will initially work as a Clinical Pharmacist (Band 6) to deliver clinical pharmacy and pharmaceutical services to our wards and departments.

You will be provided with support and clinical supervision required to transition from a Band 6 to a Band 7 Specialist Clinical Pharmacist. This will include a 12-18 month period of support during which you will undertake a structured programme to demonstrate achievement of the clinical skills, knowledge and competency required to work autonomously as a Band 7 Specialist Clinical Pharmacist. Progression to the Band 7 Specialist Clinical Pharmacist Post is dependent on the following elements being successfully achieved:

All IMM training and competencies completed allowing full participation in the clinical pharmacist rotational programme during the period the Postholder is in the progression Post.

Completion of 60 credits of a higher education accredited Post-graduate Programme in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent.

Completion of two cycles of revalidation in-line with the requirements of the GPhC.

Main duties of the job

You will be a registered pharmacist with post-registration experience in clinical services, excellent team-working skills and be currently participating in our Band 6 rotational programme.

On appointment you will continue to support the IMM clinical teams to develop your specialist clinical practice, deliver Integrated Medicines Management at the bedside and contribute to the ongoing training and supervision of pharmacy staff and students. You will spend over 95% of your time on direct patient care which will include clinical experience in admission and discharge management, board rounds and supervising and training staff including trainee pharmacist mentoring.

On Appointment to the Band 7 Clinical Pharmacist role you will support the Directorate Lead Pharmacist(s) for your team in delivering and managing the IMM service in the Divisions of Medicine, Emergency Care, Surgery or Family Care. In addition you will have the opportunity to develop a specialist area of practice, or contribute to an existing service, with attendance at clinics or multi-disciplinary team meetings and the utilisation of independent prescribing skills. You will be required to undertake teaching and clinical supervision of less experienced pharmacists, trainee pharmacists, technicians and students including undertaking the designated supervisor role (once eligible).This Post has a requirement for seven-day working including weekends, late nights, bank holidays and cross-site cover.
