Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our dynamic and dedicated teams of Personal Medical Secretaries working across all specialties within STSFT. The Post will be based at South Tyneside Hospital.

You will provide a comprehensive secretarial service offering first-class support to the Consultants and their wider team within each specialty. You must have excellent communication and organisational skills and the ability to problem-solve and work under pressure to meet deadlines. You will work as part of a team, and independently, to deliver a patient-focused service.

Main duties of the job

This is a 18.75-hour, part-time Post, working over 2.5 days. We have a flexible working policy in place which allows patterns of flexibility within our core times. Annual appraisals to support in progression within our teams.

The role primarily involves typing correspondence, managing patient appointments, dealing with phone queries, managing clinical diaries, validating waitlists alongside other secretarial and admin duties which contribute to the efficient running of the Service. Within each of the specialties there is a dedicated team of Support Medical Secretaries, allowing the Generic Medical Secretary to support the Consultants and their wider clinical teams more closely, on a one-to-one basis.

Exceptional communication and organisational skills are required to meet the daily demands of working under pressure. You will communicate with many outside agencies, other NHS professionals, patients, and relatives daily. You should possess an empathetic nature to be able to confidently deal with patient queries.

You should possess OCR, RSA Level III or equivalent typing / keyboard qualification or have equivalent relevant experience in a similar role.Level 2 in Numeracy and Literacy, GCSE Grades 9-4 (A to C) in Maths and English Language (or equivalent qualification) is also essential to the Post and must be evidenced in your Application to be shortlisted.
