Midwife Teaching Fellow

Job summary

We are looking to recruit a part-time Midwife Teaching Fellow to work in the Undergraduate Medical Education Department, as a member of the teaching team for the University of Sunderland Medical School.

This post offers an exciting opportunity for a Midwife to be a part of our dynamic multidisciplary team. We are committed to providing high quality education to the medical students and this post offers you a unique opportunity to broaden teaching and organisational experience within a progressive and supportive environment. The team consists of a variety of MDT members who work together across different specialites to ensure the curriculum is delivered efficiently and effectively for the medical students.

The post holder will have the opportunity to work both independently and as a part of a larger team. Teaching opportunities are dynamic and will allow the successful candidate to be creative and forward thinking.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate must be registered with the NMC and have significant post-registration experience. The candidate must have a Degree in a health care or educational subject, be proficient in clinical skills assessment, have a good knowledge of the medical role and have experience of autonomous working in an MDT environment. Excellent communication, teaching and organisational skills are essential.

We would expect that the candidate would be able to take a lead in activities and ensure effective time management, prioritisation and organisation as required. Effective negotiation and interpersonal skills are important as is the ability to work under pressure, coping with more than one project at a time, meeting timescales and targets, working both independently and as part of a team. As well as this, a flexible attitude towards work is essential.

It is desirable for the candidate to have a recognised teaching qualification, as well as experience teaching in simulated learning environments. Experience with giving feedback and using feedback models is also desirable.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Director of Undergraduate Clinical Studies, the Clinical Nurse Lecturer, Consultant Block Leads and other Teaching Fellows. The post holder will work hours within the standard working week, and flexible working hours (as per Trust Policy) can be negotiated. Support and training will be given within the role.
