NHS Foundation Trust (STSFT) are recruiting a Health Literacy Co-ordinator.
This exciting new post will
become part of an established team and will support the work of the Trust’s
Health and Wellbeing strategy.
STSFT are committed to
tackling health inequalities. We see health literacy as an area where we can
make real progress. We want to make sure the information we send to patients is
clear and accessible for everyone.
This means making sure
leaflets and letters are simple and accurate. This will help patients to make
the best use of this information. For example, this might be about the details
of an appointment or a medical condition.

Main duties of the job
The main aim of this role is to support
the Health Literacy Officer in embedding health literacy best practice in the
Trust. The post holder will be integral to work assessing and amending our
current patient information to make it easier to understand and more
accessible. They will provide significant administrative support in planning,
implementing and delivering this work.
The post holder will be the first point
of contact for the Health Literacy team, fielding queries by phone, email and
in person from a range of stakeholders. They will co-ordinate internal and
external engagement events to make sure the voices of communities and clinical
teams are heard.
The post holder will also be involved in
developing support to empower Trust staff to produce clearer and more
accessible information. The post holder will be involved in developing support
materials, an intranet page and arranging awareness training for staff.
We are looking for someone who
could help to involve local groups and individuals in this work. The role would
suit someone who has a genuine desire to reduce health inequalities.

The post holder will act as first point of contact for the Health Literacy project team as well as the wider Prevention team and as such, must display a considerable degree of initiative and exercise their own judgement whilst maintaining a calm, friendly and efficient manner when dealing with internal and external stakeholders.
