Job summary
We
have a fantastic opportunity within our Mental Health Support Teams to train as
an Education Mental Health Practitioner. The post holder will be expected to
commit to training at Northumbria University on the Low Intensity CBT
qualification whilst working within our Mental Health Support Teams to gain the
knowledge and clinical experience in order to qualify as an Education Mental
Health Practitioner.
Our EMHPs work in schools to support the implementation of the Mental Health
Support Team model, supporting children and young people with their mental
health and emotional wellbeing needs. The post holder will work in our
established teams to deliver 1:1 support as well as delivering evidence based
preventative interventions to develop resilience and coping strategies to whole
classes and schools.
The post will involve delivering training modules to
school staff to develop skills and awareness of mental health, as well as being
embedded the consultation model within the school working alongside the Senior Mental
Health Lead.
Main duties of the job
As part of their training, successful applicants
will deliver psychological interventions in either Sunderland or South Tyneside
and will play a full part in the effective development of the service. Regular
supervision is an important aspect of the work of the service. Trainees will be
expected to have the ability to learn in a variety of settings and using a
variety of learning methods. Ability to study as a self-motivated learner who
can formulate their own progress towards learning objectives and negotiate
pathways to achievement with supervisory teams. Knowledge of the educational
system in England.
It is desirable that the applicant will have previous
experience of working with children and young people and have the ability to
personally manage a sensitive, traumatic and potentially emotionally
distressing caseload. Excellent oral and written communication skills and IT
skills are required.

- Honours level first degree, ideally in a relevant subject area.
- Willingness to undertake training on the Educational Mental Health Practitioner course (Post graduate diploma in low intensity therapy).
Desirable
- Professional qualification / training in teaching, nursing, social work, occupational therapy, counselling or within a psychological therapy.
- Psychology or other health related honours degree.
Experience
Essential
- Evidence of significant relevant experience of working with children and young people who have experienced a mental health problem
- Demonstrates high standards in written and oral communication.
- Able to write clear reports and letters.
- Evidence of working in the local community and with schools.
Desirable
- Experience of working in Primary Care Services.
