We have a new and exciting opportunity to be part of South Tynesides Mental Health Support Team The Health Minds Team as a Trainee Education Mental Health Practitioner. This is a training post in conjunction with Northumbria University. The trainee Education Mental Health Practitioner will work closely with schools across South Tyneside to support the delivery of the national Mental Health Support Team (MHST) model. MHSTs support schools with their mental health provision, offer Low Intensity CBT interventions for mild to moderate mental health difficulties, support the development of whole school approach and offer consultation, advice and training.

Potential candidates will need to be educated to degree level and have experience of working with children and young people, ideally in a school environment.

Main duties of the job

We have a fantastic opportunity within our Mental Health Support Teams to train as an Education Mental Health Practitioner. The post holder will be expected to commit to training at Northumbria University on the Low Intensity CBT qualification whilst working within our Mental Health Support Teams to gain the knowledge and clinical experience in order to qualify as an Education Mental Health Practitioner. Our EMHPs work in schools to support the implementation of the Mental Health Support Team model, supporting children and young people with their mental health and emotional wellbeing needs. The post holder will work in our established teams to deliver 1:1 support as well as delivering evidence based preventative interventions to develop resilience and coping strategies to whole classes and schools. The post will involve delivering training modules to school staff to develop skills and awareness of mental health, as well as being embedded the consultation model within the school working alongside the Senior Mental Health Lead.
