Job summary
We have some exciting training opportunities in the Sunderland
Mental Health Support Team (MHST) and are seeking to recruit enthusiastic
motivated individuals to be part of our growing team.
To be considered for the training - you will be educated
to degree level and have recent experience of working with children and young
people.
The MHST is a relatively new service and works across
designated schools in Sunderland supporting children and young people with
low to moderate mental health needs between the ages of 5 to 18 years. We provide
low-intensity interventions and offer also group work. We also work with
parents and carers as part of this in addition we offer training and advice
and support to our school teams and other professionals.

locally at the Hetton Centre, and will work on a regular basis at designated
schools across Sunderland
Main duties of the job
The MHST is a
service offered 52 weeks per year Monday to Friday 9 am - 5 pm, The base is at
the Hetton centre, but the service is delivered across school and community
sites

- Demonstrates high standards in written and oral communication.
- Able to write clear reports and letters.
- Evidence of working in the local community and with schools.
Desirable
- Experience of working in Primary Care Services.
- Worked in a service where agreed targets in place demonstrating clinical outcomes
Qualifications
Essential
- Honours level first degree, ideally in a relevant subject area.
- Willingness to undertake training on the Educational Mental Health Practitioner course (Post graduate diploma in low intensity therapy).
Desirable
- Professional qualification / training in teaching, nursing, social work, occupational therapy, counselling or within a psychological therapy.
- Psychology or other health related honours degree.
Knowledge
Essential
- Demonstrates an understanding of anxiety and depression and how it may present in Primary Care
- Demonstrates an understanding for the need to use evidence based psychological therapies and how it relates to this post
Desirable
- Demonstrates a knowledge of child development and links with childhood mental health
- Knowledge of medication used in anxiety and depression and other common mental health problems
