Job summary
The Primary Mental Health Specialist ( Targeted Youth Service) post
is an exciting opportunity to make a positive difference to the mental
health of children and young people who
are involved within the Target Youth Justice Services The post will be
collocated within the base of the target
youth services in Sunderland. The post is in its infancy and has been developed to work closely with the targeted
youth services offering mental health assessments , interventions as well as
consultation and advice to the stakeholders and practitioners. The targeted youth services,
include the Youth Justice Service, Substance misuse and the prevention service.
The post is part of the Sunderland Community Children
and Young Peoples Mental Health Service (SCCYPMHS) which is a service that is leading the way in children
and young peoples mental health getting help services. We deliver high quality
interventions, and develop the skills and knowledge of universal child
practitioners.
Main duties of the job
Although the post holder will be collocated in the
Youth Justice Service they will also be
part the multi-disciplinary
team within Sunderland Community
Children and Young Peoples Mental Health Service (SCCYPMHS)
SCCYPMHS offers
interventions to children and young people with mental health difficulties
at the earliest stage. The service facilitates the provision of services that
promote resilience, and enable positive mental health.
This post aims to increase the access of mental health
services to those children and young people who are involved in the YJS. The
intentions of the post will be to widen the understanding by offering consultation, training and
supervision to the youth justice practitioners as well as providing effective interventions
directly to children, young people and their families.
The candidate needs to have an understanding of child and adolescent
mental health , will work autonomously as a practitioner and collaboratively
with colleagues across a wide range of professions and organisations
The service is part
of the well established CYP-IAPT national
programme as well as having
a robust needs led in house training programme.
