An exciting opportunity
has arisen to work within the Specialist Palliative Care Team based at St
Benedicts Hospice as a Medical Secretary.
The post will form part of a job share with another medical secretary, working
Monday and Tuesday between the hours of 08.30am-5.00pm, base St Benedicts
Hospice.
The post holder will act
as a pivotal role for all communication with patients
and professional health colleagues within the multi-disciplinary team, internal
departments, and external agencies as necessary, to ensure continuity of
patient care.

Main duties of the job
This is a part-time role of 15 hours per week.
To provide a
comprehensive and effective secretarial service to the Consultants and medical
staff at South Tyneside Specialist Palliative Care
Team and other members of the specialist palliative care team.
To provide a competent
secretarial service to the Consultant and his/her team, making decisions and
taking action on matters of a non-routine nature on their behalf.
To ensure Meditech V6/Emis
is accessed and utilised in a manner appropriate to the service, working in
real time.
They will provide personal assistant (PA) duties for a consultant/group
of consultants including assisting in the organisation of the Consultants
workload including their clinics, ward rounds, ensuring full capacity is
achieved and working at least 5-6 week ahead for planned activity where
appropriate.
They will be maintaining the consultants diary, organising, and
arranging meetings as necessary and notifying relevant stakeholders regarding
holidays and study leave.
Dealing with patient queries and communicating with internal and outside
agencies such as Social Services and other hospitals. Answering telephone
calls, resolve enquiries and re-direct calls using a warm, smooth handover
approach.

- OCR/RSA3 typing/word processing/business admin or equivalent experience.
- Good standard of general education including GCSE in English.
Desirable
- AMSPAR Diploma.
- Audiotyping certificate.

- To work independently or as part of a team.
- To deal effectively with patient enquiries.
- To use initiative to problem solve.
Experience
