We are looking to recruit a Medical Secretary to join our
current Admin Team at St Benedicts Hospice and Centre for Specialist
Palliative Care. This post is a 30 hour
post (working over 4 days Monday to Friday but these days are negotiable).
The post holder will be responsible for the provision on medical secretary
cover to medical staff based at St Benedicts Hospice and Centre for Specialist
Palliative Care as the service requires.

Main duties of the job

To
provide a comprehensive and effective secretarial service to the Consultants
and medical staff at South Tyneside Specialist Palliative Care Team and other
members of the specialist palliative care team.
- To
act as a pivotal role for all communication with patients and professional
health colleagues within the multi-disciplinary team, internal departments and
external agencies as necessary, to ensure continuity of patient care.
- To
provide a competent secretarial service to the Consultant and his/her team,
making decisions and taking action on matters of a non-routine nature on their
behalf.
- To
ensure that all clerical and secretarial functions pertaining to the Department
are carried out in an efficient and cost effective manner according the Trust
Secretarial standards, local and national standards.
- To
ensure Meditech V6/Emis is accessed and utilised in a manner appropriate to the
service, working in real time.
- To
maintain a waiting list position that meets national and local standards.
- To
comply with the Trusts vision, values and behavioural compact.

Qualifications
Essential
- OCR/RSA3 typing/wordprocessing/business admin or equivalent experience.
- Good standard of general education including GCSE in English.
Desirable
- AMSPAR Diploma.
- Audiotyping certificate.
Skills / Attributes / Knowledge
Essential
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Packages.
- Understanding of palliative care.
- Knowledge of EMIS system and/or Hospital Information System (Meditec).
Desirable
- Willing to undertaken necessary additional training.
Physical Requirements

- To work under pressure to tight deadlines.
- To work independently or as part of a team.
