The role of the Childrens Continence Nurse Specialist is to
deliver a nurse led continence service for children and young people across
South Tyneside and Sunderland.
To achieve and maintain optimal continence through provision
and facilitation of investigation and assessment, development of care packages
and ongoing support and management throughout treatment programmes.
Provide support, education and training in all aspects of
bladder/bowel problems to children, carers and other health care professionals
in a variety of community settings.
The post holder will be expected to work across South Tyneside
and Sunderland at various clinical sites, including doing home visits to clients
homes/residential schools/mainstream schools.
Main duties of the job
To act as an autonomous, registered practitioner who is
legally and professionally accountable for own unsupervised actions guided by
the professional code of conduct and Trust guidelines and protocols.
To manage a caseload of children and young people who have
been referred to the Community Childrens Continence Service (Level 2) that continue
to experience night time wetting, daytime wetting and/or constipation/soiling
after initial input and review from Universal Services (Level 1).
To be responsible for assessing children and young people with
bladder and bowel dysfunction and implement individualised care plans to treat
and/or manage the presenting compliant in line with the local and national policies/guidance
and pathways.
