Job summary

University Hospitals Dorset are looking for a Ultrasound Assistant within the Maternity Ultrasound Department.

With the merging of Maternity services across East Dorset an exciting opportunity has arisen for a friendly and welcoming assistant within the Maternity Ultrasound Department.

You will be the first person our patients encounter when they attend the department. You will need excellent customer service skills as well as IT skills

Main duties of the job

  • To greet patients arriving in the department, enter patients' details onto IT systems and direct patients where to go within the department.
  • To perform height and weight measurements on some of our patients. To check the PACS system to ensure patients images are stored on completion of their examination.
  • As well as dealing with patients face-to-face, you will also answer phones, sometimes directing calls to other staff through the phone system and answer queries from patients and other staff. You will assist the Sonographers in their duties and chaperone intimate examinations.
  • You will be responsible for ensuring there are adequate levels of stock within the department

  • To be responsible for providing a reception service for the appointed and ad hoc patients into the Department ensuring correct patient details, collating relevant documentation for examination whilst maintaining confidentiality and support for patients and their families.
  • To provide an efficient, friendly, confidential and caring advice and information service to patients regarding their specific appointment and procedure requirements.
  • To liaise with patients, clinical staff and medical staff both within and outside the Trust to ensure patients are examined within the nationally agreed waiting time targets.
  • To assist the Radiology Team in the delivery of the Diagnostic Services in line with nationally agreed waiting time targets
  • To care for the needs of patients before, during and after their examination within the ultrasound departments, looking after all aspects of patients welfare, respecting their dignity and ensuring the patient leaves the ultrasound department safely.
  • To undertake any other duties that may be assigned from time to time by mutual consent in accordance with Trust Policy and with development of the post.
