Job summary
An exciting opportunity exists within the Surgery Directorate to lead and manage the performance and business of the Prosthetic, Orthotic, Environmental Control and Wig services. The post holder will work as a key member of services leadership teams working with clinical colleagues to develop and deliver high quality care for patients.
The Dorset Prosthetics Centreprovides Prosthetic services to patients of all ages with limb loss. We offer a range of prosthetic options to meet the needs of patients with upper and lower limb loss and multiple limb loss.
We offer services pre-and post natal, pre and post amputation, for patients who may be non limb wearing but have amputation related problems, and for those patients wanting a second opinion.
Main duties of the job
The post holder also a Senior Manager within the Surgery Directorate Management Team and as such will work to meet the objectives of both the Directorate and Care Group while supporting the Trust's overall vision, values and strategy.
The post holder is accountable for the direct delivery of three distinct services: Prosthetics, Orthotics and Environmental Controls, providing highly specialist services for the rehabilitation, treatment and equipment provision to patients with severe and complex disability. Services are delivered on trust premises and in the community.
Work with Commissioners in the CCG, Area Team and NHS England to provide services that meet the agreed national and local specification and CQINN targets and to provide information to the Trust regarding compliance with CQUINN targets and quality initiatives.
Manage the Prosthetic and Orthotic contract on behalf of the trust ensuring that services meet Trust standards, and that the provider adheres to the agreed contract and the Trust policies and procedures.

The service is a regional service commissioned by NHS England and patients attend from all of Dorset, South Wiltshire, and West Hampshire. Patients can attend from anywhere in England by request. There are 32 prosthetic centres in England.
Lead and manage the Orthotics Service providing Orthotic devices for patients in the east of Dorset and the West of Hampshire. This service is commissioned by Dorset ICB.
Manage the Environmental Control service which is a regional service Commissioned by NHS England providing highly specialist technology to assist patients with life threatening and terminal conditions to manage their environment and maintain their independence for as long as possible in their own homes or in care.
Lead the contract for wig provision working with other departments e.g. Dermatology and Oncology to provide the timely provision of wigs to patients following hair loss.
Lead and manage a multidisciplinary team of Trust staff consisting of a Clinical Scientist, Clinical Technologists, Specialist Nurse, Highly Specialist Occupational Therapist, Highly Specialist Physiotherapist, Counsellor, Podiatrist, and administration staff delivering highly specialist services and equipment to patients with highly complex medical conditions.
Manage the contract with the private company who provides the manufacturing and provision of Prosthetic and Orthotic devices liaising on a daily basis to ensure that the service is delivered to a high standard.
