Job responsibilities

• To uphold standards of safety and quality always putting the patient first and protecting them from harm.
• Ensure that the rights, dignity and confidentiality of the patient are protected at all times.
• To ensure that own practice is evidence based.
• To liaise appropriately with all members of the multidisciplinary team in a manner to promote effective teamwork.
• Practices in line with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct at all times.
• Ensures own mandatory training is updated.
• Ensures own professional/educational training needs are identified and keeps professional portfolio up to date.
• Is aware of national and local policies and initiatives which impact patient and nursing care and is able to demonstrate their application in the clinical setting.
• To ensure that all procedures and treatments are carried out according to Trust policies, procedures, and protocols.
• Act as an effective role model by demonstrating effective organisational and leadership skills.
• Assess the needs and plan the care of patients, evaluating progress to ensure the care remains appropriate and facilitate colleagues in these processes.
• Understands and analyses patient clinical observations and records, taking or instigating appropriate action as necessary.

Essential

• oNMC Registered Adult Nurse

Desirable

• oPost Registration course related to surgery or interventional radiology

Technical Skills Competencies

Essential

• oBasic IT skills . oUtilisation of electronic documentation and reporting systems.
• oObtaining and analysing clinical data to recognise the deteriorating patient.
• oMedication and prescription management non-IV and IV medication and blood products
• oCalculation of drug doses for infusions requiring frequent concentration.

Desirable

• oECG recording
• oEPMA
• oFamiliar with Ecamis, EPR. ICE
• oMale catheterisation
• oAble to retrieve relevant investigation results

Knowledge

Essential

• oDemonstrates the fundamentals of nursing care, knowledge, and practice skills.
• oNMC code of conduct

Desirable

• oAwareness of patient experience, quality and safety agenda's that support Governance Frameworks
