Job summary
To provide an opportunity fora senior general surgical traineewho has completed theirSpR training programmeto consolidate skills in managing and delivering a general surgical and emergency service in preparation for a Consultant post.
Main duties of the job
The post potentially offers wide experience and training in benign and colorectal cancer including all aspects of General Surgery. The post holder will work with a team of 12 experienced Consultant Surgeons supported by a team of 10 registrars, 3 SHOs and 7 FY1s.
The duties of the post include:
- Out-patient clinics - managing new and follow up patients independently, under supervision and teaching as required
- Operating - independently, under supervision, assisting and training as appropriate.
- Attendance at and participation in MDT meetings
- Daily ward rounds
- Supervision of junior surgical staff.
- Active participation in clinical audit, governance and research.
- Teaching of medical students and surgical trainees
- Pre and post operative care of admissions
- Participation in middle grade on call rota (currently working a 1 in 10 rota but subject to change).
