Consultant Ophthalmologist – Corneal and Emergency Ophthalmology
The closing date is 23 July 2025
Job summary
Applications are invited for the post of Consultant Ophthalmologist within Corneal and Emergency Eye Disease Service.
This is a replacement substantive, permanent, full time, corneal consultant post to work in conjunction with a part-time corneal consultant.
The Corneal service has been developed previously to a full medical and surgical service including an acute medical corneal clinic and has a good diagnostic suite of modern anterior segment imaging equipment. We have a Pentacam and are in the process of purchasing an anterior segment OCT machine.
The service has historically undertaken both full thickness and partial thickness corneal graft procedures as well as other anterior segment surgery including pterygium, complex cataract surgery and iris reconstruction.
In December 2021 we launched a pioneering Health Village based in a department store for technician-led virtual clinics in our new diagnostic hub and clinician-led cataract facility. This has now moved up to the old maternity hospital in Poole which has been refurbished for this purpose.
This will complement our main sites at Royal Bournemouth Hospital, and Poole Hospital and peripheral clinics at Christchurch, Swanage, and Blandford Community Hospitals.
