Job summary

Vacancies have arisen to join our newly created Security Team, as a Security Operative. Working within a dedicated team to provide a 24-hour Security Service at all three University Hospitals Dorset Trust sites. You will need to work across all sites as required.

Main duties of the job

Duties include:

  • To act as part of the wider Trust teams working on the prevention and reduction of criminal acts and where necessary responding with those teams to acts of violence and aggression.
  • To provide efficient and effective 24-hour 7-day week patrols of the internal and external infrastructure of the Trust sites.
  • To provide help and advice to Patients, Visitors and Staff.
  • To support excellent patient care

The position is full time, working as part of a rota including weekend and Bank Holidays over a 24-hour period. Flexibility is required to cover colleague shifts due to leave and sickness.

You will have excellent communication and customer care skills, as a large part of the role will bring you into daily contact with patients, visitors and staff from a wide range of differing backgrounds. A willingness to undertake training as legislation or the role requires is also essential.

Previous experience of a similar role would be an advantage.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • Perform regular security patrols of the Trust grounds, buildings and car parks offering help and advice as required being a visible deterrent to criminal activity and anti-social behaviour.
  • Apply PMVA de-escalation techniques as required up to and including application of restrains as a last resort.
  • Undertake all relevant training to meet current and future evolving legislation.
  • Provide escort duties as required to patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Monitor CCTV cameras, ensuring compliance with the Code of Practice and Procedures Manual.
  • Assist in incident investigation as directed by the Trust Security Lead
  • Monitor associated Security equipment to identify any faults or damage and carry out basic repair/maintenance where required. Reporting faults as required
  • Respond to reports of persons trapped in lifts, providing reassurance and assistance as required.
  • To utilise the use of two-way radios, bleep system, telephone, and intercoms as an efficient means of communication.
  • Undertake any further Departmental duties to reflect an effective, evolving health care service. (This may include transfer of patients and the deceased in support of the Portering function)
