Job summary

This is a replacement Speciality Doctor post in Community Paediatrics, working within the Community/Neurodisability team at the Child Development Centre at Poole Hospital. The successful applicant will join a team of 7 Consultants, 2 Specialists and 4 Speciality Doctors, with close links with the acute paediatricians working in the hospital. There is a planned contract of 10 programmed activities in Community Paediatrics but applicants wishing to work part-time will be considered.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be expected to:

Support a community base, delivering predominantly pre-school-age developmental assessments

Work in the Looked After Children service, performing Initial Health Assessments

Hold responsibility for a local school for children with moderate learning disabilities

Opportunity to support a local enuresis service

Additional interests could be catered for, including medical education, palliative care or Safeguarding as examples.

There is no on-call element to this post.

Any other changes unrelated to this, will be handled in line with Trust/National terms and conditions.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Full GMC Registration
  • MRCPCH
  • Completed at least 4 years full-time postgraduate training, of which at least 2 years must be in paediatrics

Desirable

  • MSc or Diploma in Child Health

Experience

Essential

  • All round general experience in paediatrics Experience in running own independent out-patient clinics

Desirable

  • Experience in Community Paediatrics, including preschool multidisciplinary assessments
  • Experience of a special school
  • Experience in enuresis/tics.

Knowledge

Essential

  • Basic management skills. Good understanding of the structure and processes within the NHS including clinical governance.
  • An understanding of research methodology and critical appraisal.
  • Involvement in clinical governance.
  • Good organisational and time-management skills. Excellent IT skills.

Desirable

  • Evidence of publications / presentations.
